Abstract
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease posing a tremendous burden for patients, caregivers, and health care systems. Family caregivers usually manage the main responsibility for home care of persons with Alzheimer’s disease. The aim is to assess Psychosocial Problems among Family Caregivers of Patients with Alzheimer disease Research design: A descriptive design was done. Setting: study was conducted at the out-patient Geriatrics clinic of El Abbassia Mental Health Hospital and The out-patient memory clinic of the institute of psychiatry at Ain Shams University. The sample included a convenient sample of 150 family caregivers with patients who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer. Interviewing questionnaire tool for Family Caregivers was used included: socio demographic data sheet and for Family Caregivers of Patients with Alzheimer disease Psychosocial Problems (burden, anxiety and depression) among Family Caregivers of Patients with Alzheimer disease. Results: The study findings revealed that Total Burden of studied Family Caregivers were two third of studied caregivers had moderate level of burden. That one third of them had mild mode of depression. While one third of them have moderate level of anxiety. Conclusion: there was highly statistical significant relation between family caregivers burden and their monthly income, between depression and their age and between family caregivers’ anxiety and their age, sex, working conditions and educational level. Recommendations: Educational programs should be given to increase Family Caregivers knowledge and awareness of the nature of Alzheimer disease comprehensive medical, social, educational and financial help.
