Abstract

The WHO estimates 130 to 150 million people infected with HCV worldwide (WHO 2016).
The advent of new DAAs as efficacious treatment for chronic hepatitis C and emerging prevalence of non alcoholic steatohepatitis raises new questions on the role of TE in current clinical practice in light of the changing epidemiology of liver diseases and new clinical management paradigms (Chang et al. 2016).
Neutrophil to Lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and Platelet to Lymphocyte ratio (PLR) have been shown to be a marker of inflammation in different diseases (Kucuk et al. 2016) (Cetin et al. 2016).
The aim of this study was to assess the value of TE, Neutrophil to Lymphocyte ratio and Platelet to Lymphocyte ratio in predicting response to antiviral therapy in Egyptian chronic hepatitis patients.
Our study was a retrospective study including 200 patients with CHC treated with antiviral drugs from January 2014 till January 2016.
Subjects were categorized according to the sustained virological response (SVR) to group I (Responders) and group II (Non-responders).
All members of the study were subjected to: Clinical history, important physical findings, abdominal ultrasound findings, laboratory hematological assessment by CBC, prothrombin time (INR), CBC with differential leucocytic count and platelet count, serological laboratory assessment by HCV antibodies and HBsAg, viral load by (PCR) for HCV-RNA, biochemical laboratory assessment by AST, ALT, total bilirubin, serum albumin, serum creatinine, TSH and ANA, and Liver fibrosis assessment by TE prior to treatment.
The results were statistically analyzed and the following data was found:
 There was a significant statistical difference among the two studied groups on comparing liver stiffness with a P value of 0.018. Being lower in group I (20.245 ± 16.239) and higher in group II (30.363 ± 16.377).
 There was a significant statistical difference among the two studied groups on comparing the Neutrophils/Lymphocytes Ratio with a P value of < 0.001. Being lower in group I (1.399 ± 0.576) and higher in group II (1.914 ± 0.298).
 There was no significant statistical difference among the two studied groups on comparing Platelets/Lymphocytes Ratio with a P value of 0.476.
