Abstract Autism is a development disability that typically appear during within the first three years of life as a result of a neurological disorder affecting the function of the brain .The core features of autism include deficits in social interaction and communication as well as repetitive and restrictive patterns of behavior. Interventions commonly used for children with autism include various medical, psychosocial treatments, structure educational approaches and behavior modifications. The goals of treatment include decreasing the core symptoms of autism, enhancing specific communication and socialization skills, and reducing problematic behaviors. Children with autism have a range of occupational and performance problems that interfere with their full participation in school, home, and community activities. Autism is lifelong disorders that most of the families have to live and care their children on their own forever.Mother as a main caregiver in the family, is usually the first teacher of children’s lives and directly involved in caring of the child. Mothers need to learn the skills to fulfill the various needs of their children with autism. Maternal competency level impacts the manner in which parents interact with their children and associated with levels of well-being for parents,children and family The aim of this study was: to determine the effect of an educational training on mother’s competency level for managing the children with autism Materials and method: a quasi experimental design was used. The study was conducted at child psychiatry out-patient clinic in Psychiatry Center a Tanta University Hospital on fifty mothers and their autistic children with no special criteria regarding their educational level, occupation or residence area. |
