Abstract

The objective of this study is to assess the environmental impact of the bottom sediments and to study the characteristics of the seabed using the QTC system in the EL-Mex Bay area, located west of Alexandria. And to compare the results and geological analyzes with the results of the analysis of the sediments of the region and determine the source of pollution of petroleum products, and linking the results of combustion processes .The samples were collected to cover the area of the study and its analysis to determine the particle size of sediments, total organic carbon (TOC) and some organic pollutants (PAH) and PAHs. The results showed that the marine sediment environment in the EL-Mex Bay has no trace of hydrocarbons from the cannabis (C10-C20) ,the average concentration was 5118.6 μg of dry weight and therefore less than the harmful level . As for the distribution and origin of PAHs, their concentration in the sediments varies considerably between the studied sites. Values range from 41 to 2555 μg (dry weight) at an average of 849 μg.The lowest level of samples from remote locations, such as the open sea; samples containing the highest concentrations were generally representative of the coastal area of the study area near potential sources of contamination.Environmental toxicity risk assessment can be changed according to the SQGs considered. The results showed that all samples were less than ERR, indicating no negative biological effects in the study area. For TEL (PEL), all the results of individual PAHs were less than TEL (except for Ace, Ba, Ba, DBA, chr), while all results were less than PEL. The results of these groups are that the sources of these compounds are from industrial sources or natural petroleum sources or come from common sources. PCA analysis on sediment data collected from the study area D link between some compounds in the sediment samples in the Mex Bay relationship. And observed no significant correlation between the rest of the samples. This explained the existence of a link in the origin of each pair is linked with some. She noted these findings indicate that the vehicles originated from the same source PC1 has a strong importance of the sediment type that appears to control the accumulation of hydrocarbons that cause pollution to the Gulf sediment has a negative connotation of all previous parameters while PC2 was controlled on TFPAHs which show positive signals with PAHs, COMB, CARC compounds. This indicates that multi-dominant aromatic hydrocarbons were controlled in the study area.
