Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is kidney damage for 3 months, as defined by structural or functional abnormalities of the kidney, with or without decreased GFR, manifest by either:
Pathological abnormalities; or
Markers of kidney damage, including abnormalities in the composition of the blood or urine, or abnormalities in imaging tests.
GFR < 60ml/min/1.73m2 for 3 months, with or without kidney damage.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a public health problem worldwide. CKD patients are at increased risk not only for end stage kidney disease (ESKD) but also for cardiovascular disease (CVD).
CKD was considered as a strong predictors of CVD which is considered the most common cause of death in people with CKD.
On the other hand, NAFLD is defined by the accumulation of liver fat >5 %per liver weight, in the presence of <20 g/d for womenand <30 g/d for men of daily alcohol intake; viral or othercauses of liver disease must be excluded. Patients with NAFLD usually present no manifestation of liver disease and are often identified by elevation of liver enzymes or ultrasonographic evidence of liver steatosis
There is aclose link between NAFLD &cardiovascular risk.also there is apositive correlation between NAFLD &carotid intima media thickness.
The aim of the present study was to determine the correlation and association between NAFLD &cardiovascular diseases in ESRD on haemodialysis which have been assessed by measuring common carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) and abdominal ultrasonography for diagnosis of NAFLD.
This present study was conducted on seventy end stage renal failure patients on maintenance haemodialysis. Age range: 22-76 years old ; 36 males, 34 females, recruited from the renal and dialysis unit at urolgy and nephrology hospital, minia general hospital, minia insurance hospital.
