Abstract

Summary
Psoriasis, a chronic erythemato squamous dermatitis that affects about 2-3% of
the population, is characterized by abnormal keratinocyte hyperproliferation ,
which make thickening of the epidermis and of the stratum corneum. Psoriasis
vulgaris accounts for 90% of the psoriasis cases and is characterized by well
delineated reddish and scaly papules and plaques
Sexual function (SF) is an essential component of life. For this reason, sexual
dysfunction (SD) can have a negative impact on the well-being of an individual
Sexual dysfunction (SD) is defined as difficulty experienced by an individual or
couple during any stage of normal sexual activity, including physical pleasure,
desire, preference, arousal or orgasm, it can have a profound impact on an
individual’s quality of sexual life
Psoriasis is a skin condition with a high rate of psychiatric comorbidity, if goes
unrecognized. the negative consequences of mood disorders like depression and
anxiety will affecton patient quality of life
The greater frequency of sexual dysfunctions in association with psoriasis may
respond to different factors. On the one hand, psoriasis can cause an alteration in
body image that could produce feelings of low self-esteem, stigmatization and
decreased confidence; these could lead to sexual dysfunctions, just as genital
involvement may be a direct impediment to sex.
In this study ,found that psoriasis have significant effect on sexual functions showing decrease in all domains except satisfication
Also , there is cardinal effect and negative impact of depression ,anxiety on sexual functions . However, depression has no additional effect on sexual dysfunction in psoriasis patient .
Also ,there is sever sexual dysfunction in patients with genital psoriasis .
Dermatologist should think in psoriasis associated comorbidities as depression ,anxiety and sexual dysfunction to provide better quality of life for psoriasis patients .
