Abstract

Hybrid composites of styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) with two
different waste fillers namely, microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) extracted
from rice straw and waste rubber ash (WRA) were prepared in internal
mixer, then molded on hot press to form sheets samples. Gamma irradiation
doses ranged from (25 up to 150 kGy) has been applied to induce
crosslinking for SBR composites that loaded by reinforcement filler which is
untreated or surface treated by both acrylate and silane as coupling agents.
The concentration of MCC from 5-20 phr, meanwhile WRA from 5-40 phr.
The fillers were characterized by FTIR and XRD. Physico-mechanical
properties like TS, tensile modulus, sol fraction and crosslinking density
were investigated as a function of filler content and irradiation dose. SEM as
well the thermal analysis (TGA) was done for selected composites. The
results show that MCC and WRA increase mechanical properties and
crosslink density, also the thermal stability were improved.
