Abstract The aim of the study was to compare the shaping ability of Protaper next and BT-RaCe, regarding canal transportation, canal straightening and shaping time. 40 simulated canals were selected and divided into two groups. group 1 was shaped by PTN while group 2 was shaped by BTR. Pre and post instrumentation images were taken by standardized manner. Pre and post instrumentation images were superimposed using computer software. Canal transportation was measured by using the following equation (transportation =Deviation toward inner side – Deviation toward outer side). Pre and post angle of curvature were measured using Schilder method. Shaping time of each file was recoded then total shaping time was calculated. Results showed that PTN induce canal transportation at the apical part toward the outer side of the canal, and at the middle part the transportation was toward the inner side of the canal. highest amount of transportation occurred at 5 mm level (0.213 mm 0.051). BTR induce less transportation at the apical part, while transportation occurred at the middle part toward the inner side of the curvature. The highest amount of transportation was found at level 5mm (0.19440.032). It was found that there was no deference in canal straightening between the two groups. BTR was faster in shaping the canals (62.3 sec 4.7) than PTN (71.1 sec 5.7). |
