Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of interactive multimedia simulations and virtual dissection software on depth of learning among students participating in biology, mathematics and chemistry laboratory courses. By understanding more about how simulation and virtual dissection software changes learning, educators will have the ability to add these modalities to their current instructional design. The research problems for this study were designed to answer three questions: first, what effect does the use of interactive multimedia simulation software have on the depth of learning within chemistry laboratories?
Second, what effect does the use of virtual dissection software have on the depth of learning within science laboratories? And three, what effect does the use of interactive multimedia simulation software have on depth of learning within mathematics courses? A comparative methodology was utilized to collect pretest and posttest data to assess depth of learning in Introduction to Chemistry, mathematics and General Biology laboratories.
Pretest and posttest statistical comparison was completed via paired t tests, independent sample t-tests, Statistical findings showed significant differences between participants in their depth of learning after utilizing interactive multimedia simulations in introduction to chemistry (t-test= 8.530), biology(t-test= 4.872) and mathematics(t-test= 5.685). The student can make practical experiments through the virtual lab as if they were real. Based on the practical use of the system SCMBS, We took the results through a form to take the views of experts and students and after analyzing the results using a program SPSS.
