Abstract

Cement manufacturing is one of the main industries which contribute in environmental pollution. So, there is a great need to produce environmentally friendly cement as alternative to Portland cement. This study aims at preparing environmentally friendly alkali activated aluminosilicate (granulated slag, ceramic waste, glass waste and metakaolin) binders which have high resistivity to sulfur oxidizing bacteria (SOB). The results proved that alkali activated binders showed the highest mechanical properties and resistivity to SOB. The environmental impact and energy required for OPC production is higher than that of alkali activated aluminosilicate binders.
