Abstract

Modern artistic movements in the early twentieth-century had a great effect on the styles of artists and ways of implementing an art object. They were concerned by many studies to interpret notions, thoughts and content of their output. This research interested in one of its doctrines which is formalism as a theoretical base engaged in many art forms. It can be considered an intellectual intention allows to innovate hanging textiles as a practical action leads to a product has a new aesthetic value (formalism), with the consideration of technology as a major participant in design process of each product.
The research comprises extensive study on factors of formalism and its notion that includes most of the artistic art works that seek of form for the form’s sake. It allows the self to rebel against traditional design thoughts and to interest by (form) only with all its various production as the main core of an integrated artwork. This aesthetic value played down personal expression and in its place proposed a dialogue with printing technology and materials.
The researcher constructed the practical applications on formalism through the innovation of 15 printed hanging textiles exploiting the potential of printing technology, tools, materials and woven structure of fabrics. Natural fabrics has been used with appropriate dyes and pigment pastes. Every production has been displayed and interpret its precise details and methods of implementation in order to identified its aesthetic qualities and design fundamentals in its constructive form.
