Abstract

Most of the territory of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the dry and
semi-dry climate, the region suffers from a lack of water resources, and
that the Egyptian economy depends on agriculture, so it is the
consumption of large quantities of water in agriculture. And the building
of the agricultural development operations based on increasing the
efficiency of the irrigation process, which depends on the choice of the
most appropriate technical specifications of each component of the
irrigation control head, which in turn leads to increased productivity.
The selection of the best technical specifications for each of the
components of the irrigation control head is one of the fundamental
processes that lead to an increase in the efficiency of the irrigation system
and therefore increase productivity. And where there are many types and
models for each of the components of the drip irrigation control head (the
pump, filters, Fertigation unit, valves) that agriculture began in Egypt
depends on technological development such as the use of expert systems
and programs that rely on artificial intelligence to support decisionmaking
in this area.
The objectives of the study
The study aimed to build and evaluate an expert system to select
the most appropriate technical specifications of each component of the
drip irrigation control head.
The construction of expert system called ”TSDI-ES” to choose the
most appropriate technical specifications of the components of the drip
irrigation control head. And this is a simple and flexible system where the
user can modify the inputs at any time without any impact on the results
of the program and to help in the process of selecting the technical
specifications for each component of the drip irrigation control head using
machine language Visual Basic.

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
Samar A. Mohamed (2017), M.Sc., Fac. Agri., Ain Shams Univ.
Materials and Methods used can be summarized as follows:
1) Collected a large database for each of the components of the irrigation
control head and through the companies listed in the Egyptian market.
2) The composition and compilation of expert program called (TSDI-ES)
to select the most appropriate technical specifications of each
component of control head unit in the drip irrigation network using the
language of Visual Basic 2013. The proposed program has been
explained and its contents Reference Data (information site - the
characteristics of the soil, climate data - cropping patterns - Irrigation
options), as well as all the EQUATIONS and rules used in the
estimation of variables of irrigation management.
3) The program has been validated by IMOC-ES rule based program to
calculate the irrigation requirements and selection of appropriate
irrigation control head components.
4) The evaluation of the TSDI-ES program through holding accounts and
applying the experience to the Al-Nubaria farm.
5) Three types of crops (Mango- Orange- Lemon) were considered .
The obtained results showed that:
1) The ability to choose the most appropriate technical specifications of
each component of the drip irrigation control head unit.
2) The results showed the possibility of application of expert systems
based on a database, particularly where the proposed expert system
features ”TSDI-ES” easily design, relying on the database without the
need to use additional design programs.
3) The possibility of the use of the program ”TSDI-ES” needs assessment
of different crops with high accuracy.

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS

4) The possibility of amendment and addendum in the program inputs at
any time as well as easy to deal with the program and does not require
the existence of a scientific background-friendly with the program.
5) The possibility of introducing a database more than the technical
specifications for each of the components of the irrigation control
head.
6) All results of equations using the program ”TSDI-ES” were close to
those calculated through the Excel program and also with the results of
the calculated manually.
The recommendations of this study
from the previous results can be recommended that the proposed
program ” TSDI-ES” is the addition of new scientific knowledge in the
application of techniques of expert systems in the field of engineering the
irrigation under the Egyptian conditions and that the accuracy of the
selection of the most appropriate technical specifications of each
component of the drip irrigation network, leading to greater efficiency in
the use of irrigation water and therefore increase productivity meanwhile.
Expert systems can be an alternative choice for the private sector
due to difficulties encountered in finding the expert person at all times
and everywhere and high costs of expert persons. Computer programs
known as expert systems are believed to be the best fitting method for the
solution of complex.
Problems like selection of components of irrigation network. In this
study following suggestions can be made:
 Better economic decisions will be taken within a short time.
 Likelihood of making mistakes will be eliminated by the use of
the program and thus damages that will be caused by mistakes will
be prevented.

 With the development of this program, selection of such
properties of pumps as cables, electrical organs etc. will be
possible.
 This expert system will help pump dealers in selecting the suitable
pump from among pump brands with different technical
properties.
 The database of this program can be expanded by entering the
technical properties of pumps from different firms.
