Abstract

Background: Tissue Polypeptide Specific (TPS) antigen is a prognostic tumor marker for prostate cancer it directly correlate with cellular activity and not affected by androgen deprivation like PSA which its production is under control of androgen.
Aim of work: The aim of this study is to evaluate the prognostic significance of Tissue polypeptide specific-antigen. As proliferation marker together with and as compared to PSA in patients with metastatic prostate cancer.
And correlate the TPS with clinical progression in patients on maximal androgen blockade.
Key words
Prostate cancer, metastases, androgen deprivation, tumor markers, tissue specific antigen, PSA, radiotherapy, recurrence and radical prostatectomy.
Patients and methods:
This study was a pilot exploratory prospective study that was carried out at the oncology urology clinic in Ain Shams University hospital in the period from May 2015 till May 2017.
This twenty patients after confirmed diagnosis of prostate cancer on histopathological examination they were submitted to blood samples for PSA and TPS and then underwent surgical androgen deprivation then followed again by PSA and TPS after three months to see the effect of androgen on these two markers after this the patients were followed up with investigations to detect early recurrence and monitoring the course of the disease.
Results: the TPS had a high statistical significance with the progression of the symptoms and the course of the disease of the prostate cancer.
Conclusion: TPS has a prognostic criteria about the course of the disease and areal representation of the state of the tumor because it reflects directly the activity of the tumor cells and the great criteria of stability and not be affected by androgen deprivation
Key words: Prostate cancer-Prostate Specific Antigen-Tissue Polypeptide Specific Antigen.
