Abstract

One of the main objectives of the root canal treatment is the shaping and cleaning of the root canal without changing the outline of the root canal from the preoperative shape.
Nickel Titanium files are some of tools used in producing proper cleaning and shaping of the root canal. These files have different designs and type of motion that vary in its shaping and cleaning ability.
The purpose of this study is to compare and evaluate the shaping and cleaning ability in addition to the apical extrusion of dentin and post-operative pain after the use of two different NiTi filling systems with different motion strategies.
The first part of the study was concerned by evaluation and comparing the amount of apical extrusion of debris after preparation with the two systems using quantitative method by pre and post preparation weighting of the tubes collecting the apically extruded debris during the canal preparation.
The second part of the study was concerned by the evaluation and comparison of shaping ability of both systems regarding transportation and centring ability in moderate and severely curved canals using the direct digital radiography and image traced by AUTOCAD computer system.
The third part of the study was concerned by the evaluation and comparison of the cleaning efficacy of both systems with different types of irrigating solution regarding the amount of debris in the different canal thirds using the Stereomicroscope.
The last part of the study was concerned by the comparison of post-operative pain after the preparation with both systems and evaluation using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS).
The collected data was tabulated, statistically analyzed and illustrated graphically. The results of this investigation revealed that:
 The mean weight of apically extruded debris with WaveOne file was higher in all groups than Twisted file groups, but only statistical significance was resulted in the moderately curved roots using saline irrigant and both groups using sodium hypochlorite irrigant.
 There was no statistical significance between the two files except in the group of severely curved roots and using sodium hypochlorite irrigation where Twisted Files showed better preservation of the canal centricity than the WaveOne file. Twisted files showed less percentages areas of debris in the apical third of all groups, in addition to the middle third in the severely curved groups.
 There was no difference between the two file systems in case of comparing the post-operative pain.
