Abstract

There is evidence that thyroid autoimmunity is an important risk factor for miscarriage and preterm birth or preterm labor. (122) The exact mechanisms of these associations are unknown, though two have been proposed. Firstly, the presence of thyroid autoantibodies in women with normal thyroid function could be associated with a subtle deficiency in the availability of thyroid hormones (a fall in circulating free thyroid hormones within the reference range) or a lower capacity of the thyroid gland to adequately rise to the demand for augmented synthesis of thyroid hormones required in pregnancy. (3) Thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPO Ab) positivity is considered as high risk for pregnancy complications. The present study aimed to evaluate the relationship between Thyroid peroxidase antibody and obstetrics outcome in women with recurrent miscarriage, preterm labor or intrauterine growth restriction. This study included 80 pregnant women in the reproductive age, divided into four groups each comprises 20 pregnant women. - Control group Control group including normal pregnancy without any complication, normal investigation and no risk factors. Study group1: Recurrent abortion Recurrent abortion is defined as three or more consecutive spontaneous pregnancy loss before 24 weeks of gestation.
