Abstract

Obesity is imbalance in the calorie intake and expense leads to increase in fat deposits. This excess fat deposit leads to obvious increase in the total body weight which is measured to diagnose and quantify obesity. Aim of this study: was to assess the quality of life of obese adolescent’s students in technical institute of health. Research Design: This study is a descriptive analytic study.Setting: this study was conducted at Imbaba Technical Institute of health. Sample: it was a purposive sample included 180 students (145 females and 35 males) using Body Mass Index criteria. For Data collection: three tools were used. First tool: A self –administrative questionnaire for assessing obese adolescent students divided into the following parts: socio demographic characteristics, health problems, health history, eating habits, student’s knowledge and quality of life. Second tool: Physical examination of adolescent health status. Third tool: students’ academic records analysis to estimate academic attainment of students. The results revealed that 7.5% of students out of 2400 were obese. The results found 50.6% of obese students had unsatisfactory knowledge related to obesity. As regards obese students quality of life 43% showed always good physical function, 34.8% usually and 22.2% for rarely function and there were significant association between quality of life of self-esteem, public distress, work performance and students obesity. Record analysis of students showed practical scholastic achievement associated with students’ obesity. Conclusion: In conclusion this study sample showed more than half of the students sample had unsatisfactory knowledge related obesity. In concern to students quality of life nearly half were always had physical function ,more than one third had usual function and less than one quarter had rarely physical function Recommendation: there were a needs for promoting adolescent students with developmental skills and knowledge regarding healthy eating habits, physical activity, and stress management techniques.
