Summary
Influence of the Quranic text on Modern Libyan Poetry
(1950-2000)
The present study tackles the impact of the Quranic text in the Modern Libyan Poetry in the second half of the twentieth century in an attempt to discover the strong connection between the poet and his religious background represented in the Holy Quran.
The study probes into how the modern Libyan poetry is influenced by the Holy Quran in terms of language and style. The Libyan poets deal with the Quranic words and names in a way that suits the poetic discourse. They mention some quranic verses that fit the poetic situation they describe, along with their names, and use the descriptive Quranic style to enrich their poetic language and to make the described present in the mind and soul of the receptor. Contrast is resorted to surprise the reader unexpectedly. Violating the usual words order is used to add strength to the meaning and some aesthetic effect to the poetic verse so as to preserve the harmony of its rhythm and the gorgeousness of its rhyme. Repetition is used to render the meaning more profound and to accentuate its beauty.
The present study also tackles the presence of the Quranic text in the Modern Libyan Poetry as intertexts that provide the Libyan Poem with a diversity of style on all levels whether in terms of diction, structure, or Quranic verses. The is done in harmony and accord with the context that add to the effectiveness of dynamism and interaction on the linguistic and semiotic level.
The study also attempts to unveil how the Modern Libyan Poetry is influenced by the Quranic figures as the Libyan poets are much influenced by the characters of the prophets and tend to add to what they import from Quran the pains and hopes of the present. It is evident that the Libyan poets are much influenced by the character of prophet (Youssef) and prophet (Noah), peace be upon them, more than any other prophets.
The study tackles also the impact of the Quranic text on the rhythm of the Modern Libyan Poetry and proves that it is affected by it in terms of diction, rhythm and rhyme.
The researcher has depended on the Holy Quran and the Libyan poets’ collections of poems to enrich the study with Quranic and poetic texts and this is reflected on the results which the study has bred.
