Abstract

The micro turbojet engine JetCAT P200-SX is modeled analytically using continuity, energy and momentum equations, which are solved to predict its performance and the flow parameters across its basic sections at design conditions. In order to simulate the engine’s performance at off-design conditions, the complete performance maps of the different engine components are required; therefore, empirical equations are used to predict the maps of the compressor and the combustion chamber, and hence the off-design engine performance is obtained. The model results are verified with experimental results. The analytical model predicts the experimental performance of the engine successfully (Thrust and specific fuel consumption). The model is also used to predict the engine equilibrium run lines with the variation of the exit area of the exhaust nozzle. CFD simulation of air flow through the exhaust nozzle is performed using ANSYS CFX 16.0. The obtained results are used to validate the prediction of the analytical model for the nozzle characteristics curve. In order to verify the model prediction of the engine performance with experimental results, the engine is mounted to a test bed to measure its net thrust, fuel consumption, exhaust gas temperature and rotational speed. The variation of these parameters is monitored across its speed range of 33,000 to 112,000 rpm
