Abstract

SUMMARY
The present study was applied in Faculty of Specific
Education Chemistry and Nutrition Laboratories, Ain Shams
Univ. to investigate the effect of some plants on glucose and
insulin in induced diabetic rats using nanotechnology. Fenugreek
seeds was purchased from The local market, washed, dried then
roasted at temperature (70°C) and grounded and reserved in
plastic bag, Organic solvents, Chemical reagents, Silver Nitrate
(AgNO3) and antidiabetic medication (Amyral) were purchased
from Cairo, Egypt. Fenugreek seeds were extracted in Soxhlet
apparatus for 8h/day for 3 consecutive days. The extract was
filtered and stored at 4°C. The chemical composition of
Fenugreek extract was analyzed by (Infra-red), then synthesis of
silver –nanoparticles (AgNPs) finally, a solution of fenugreek
extract was mixed with AgNPs soulation to form residue
products; Fenugreek –AgNPs.Female albino rats Sprague Dawaly
(56rats) weighing approximately (180±20g) were used. They
were purachased from Helwan breeding farm, Cairo, Egypt. The
groups (2, 4, 6, and 7) were induced by injection with
streptozotocin at (45 mg/kg body wt.) were divided 7 groups
subgroups (8 rats each), all groups fed 2 months:
Summary

•Groups (1, 2): Normal, Diabetic rats: fed on basal diet only (no
intervation).
•Groups (3, 4): Normal, Diabetic rats: fed on basal diet+ Ag-NPs
(200mg/ Kg b.w. /day) via oral gavage.
•Groups (5, 6): Normal, Diabeticrats: fed on basal diet+
Fenugreek-Ag nanoparticles (200mg/ Kg b.w. /day) via oral
gavage.
•group (7): Diabetic rats: fed on basal diet+ anti diabetic
medication (300mg/Kg.b.wt/day) via oral gavage.
At the end of the experiment (2 months).FI, BWG, and FER
weekly.Rats were fasted overnight 12 hrs, anesthetized and blood
samples were taken for the biochemical analysis, internal organs
weighted and the relative weight. Data obtained were statistically
analyazed.
The results showed that:
•BWG and FER on diabetic G6 given Fenugreek-Agnanoparticles
Oral administration were significantly increased (68.47g) and
(1.27%).
• Serum glucose, HbA1C on diabetic rats (G4, G6 and G7) given
Fenugreek- Silver nanoparticles (F-AgNPs), Silver nanoparticles
(AgNPS) and antidiabetic medication (Amyral) Oral
administration were significantly decreased (247.98, 217.62 and

190.02) mg/dl and (7.49, 7.02 and 3.61) % respectively. In the
G4 treatment with silver nanoparticles was significantly increased
insulin (9.04 U/L) compared with diabetic G2 fed on basal diet
only.
• That significantly serum Total cholesterol and TG on diabetic
rats (G4, G6 and G7) given Silver nanoparticles(AgNPS),
Fenugreek +Silver nanoparticles (F-AgNPs), and antidiabetic
medicationoral administration (75.25, 79.75, and 69.38) mg/dl
and (85.59, 124.9 and 102.48)mg/dl respectively compared
diabetic G2 fed on basal diet only. In the time normal groups non
significantly compared G1 fed on basal diet only.
•The effects of on the liver functions Fenugreek Silver
nanoparticles (F-AgNPs), Silver nanoparticles (AgNPS) and
Amyral (antidiabetic medication) Oral administration GPT and
GOT were reduce a significant in diabetic groups (G4, G6 and
G7) compared diabetic G2 fed on basal diet only on the other
hand, total protein results showed a significant enhancement in
diabetic groups (G4, G6, and G7) compared diabetic G2 fed on
basal diet only.
• Resulted proved that effect Fenugreek+ Silver nanoparticles (FAgNPs),
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPS) and antidiabetic
medication oral administration on kidney functions in groups

diabetic groups(G4, G6 and G7) were decrease significant
compared diabetic G2 fed on basal diet only.
Conclusion:
The present study cleared that the natural food (Fenugreek) was
used as a Functional Food in the form of Nano-Technology (the
new method for controlling Diabetes Mellitus). Besides improved
all biological parameters (glucose, Insulin, HbA1c, liver
function, Kidnyes function………….etc).
Recommendations:
1. Diabetic subjects are advised to eat fenugreek as (type of
legumes) are considered treatment food for diabetics
mellitus.
2. Nanotechnology is a useful method for showing the role of
functional foods in controlling diabetes mellitus.
3. Using nanotechnology procedure new researches and
studies for controlling other diseases (Hypertention,
heart or liver, kidney diseases).
4. Nutrition Education programs through media sources are
very important for public
