Abstract

The ankle joint is a crucial part of the musculoskeletal system necessary for normal ambulation, it plays a necessary role throughout walking, and is of great value while practicing physical activities. Ankle fractures are frequently seen at the emergency ward with an incidence of 1 to 2 per 1000 persons per year. The importance of the existence of a data base is to assess our way of management of this type of injury either in diagnosis or treatment. And facilitating any further researches for this type of fracture. The main point of this study is that it was found that intraoperative assessment of the syndesmosis was done by the staff very well, and by doing that avoid cases with missed syndesmotic disruption. Our study was aiming to detect the prevalence of ankle fracture, quality of management of ankle fracture in Emergency hospital Mansoura university, what`s done, what`s missed, and what`s needed to be corrected, and quality of follow-up of patients at OPC of Mansoura university orthopedic center, and why some patients not following-up there. All that to make a strong database for future researches Mortise view is not a routine, it should be done after fracture classification in type B, and C, intraoperative assessment of syndesmosis is very important. There is strong correlation type B, and C fracture pattern and syndesmotic disruption. There should be follow-up program and score system to be applied in further researches. Local neurovascular status is very important to assess that is perfectly done with no missed cases at all. Soft tissue status should be managed carefully and early and handled well. Elderly patients with poor bone quality need more care regarding fixation to be more rigid-probably by using locking implant and during follow-up period.
