Abstract

The present work was Held to explain the adverse effects of lincomycin, spectinomycin and lincospectin in white albino rats. Thirty two rats were divided to four equal groups. First group (control) administrated distilled water, second group treated daily with lincomycin (500 mg/kg bw) orally for 21 days, third group treated daily with spectinomycin (250 mg/kg bw) subcutaneously for 30 days, and fourth group received lincospectin daily (250 mg/Kg bw lincomycin orally + 125 mg/Kg bw spectinomycin subcutaneously) for 21 days. One day after the end of treatment, blood and serum were collected to evaluate hematological, biochemical parameters and also tissue specimen from liver, kidney and testis were collected for histopathology. The obtained result showed that, lincomycin, spectinomycin and lincospectin treated groups ALT values evoked a significant increase. Lincomycin and spectinomycin treated groups AST levels revealed a significant increase while lincospectin treated group AST levels revealed non significant increase. Cholesterol value elicited a significant increase in lincomycin and spectinomycin treated groups and non significant increase in lincospectin treated group. Triglycerides and LDL levels elicited a significant increase in lincomycin, spectinomycin and lincospectin treated groups. While HDL value evoked a significant decrease in lincomycin, spectinomycin and lincospectin treated groups. Moreover, urea and creatinine levels evoked a significant increase in spectinomycin and lincospectin treated groups while there was non significant increase in Lincomycin treated group. Liver and kidney weight revealed a significant decrease in lincomycin, spectinomycin treated groups while there was non significant decrease in lincospectin treated group. And the testis weight revealed non significant differences within all tested groups. The histopathological examination of liver, kidney and testis showed abnormal changes. The conclusion both tested drugs evoked some adverse effects on some hematological and biochemical parameters in treated rats.
