Abstract

SUMMARY
This study was carried out during two seasons, 2010 and 2011 in an unheated plastic house at the Ministry of Water and Environmental, experimental farm, northern region in UAE. The main objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of using bio- and organic fertilizers under UAE conditions on plant growth, yield, quality and chemical constituents of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) hybrid F1. Queen.
A split plot design with three replicates was used and the area of each replicate plot was 4.8m2. The organic fertilizers were arranged in main plots while the bio-organic fertilizers plotted randomly in sub plots.
The results can be summarized as follow:
1- It has been found, in the present work that the highest plant height of cucumber were in the plants treated with the compost compared with the rest of organic fertilizers and central control . However, the cucumber plants grown with compost + mycorhizal treatments were superior in plant height compared with any others treatments included in the experiment and control.
2- Regarding the effect of Bio -and organic fertilizers on plant fresh weight significant differences were detected among the plant fresh weight. The compost + mycorhizal gave the highest results than in the others treatments of organic fertilizers.
3- Referring to the effect of Bio-and organic fertilizers on number of leaves per plants, studied had a significant effect on number of leaves / plant the treatments were used as compost + mycorrhizalwere higher than in the at her treatments throughout the experiment.
4- The highest total leaf area / plant of cucumber were obtained in the plants treated with compost + phosphobacterin.
5- Cucumber plants treated with compost or cows manure gave the highest values of chtorophyll. However, no significant differences were detected between horse manure treatments and control.
6- Regarding to the effect of bio-and organic fertilizers, the highest mean values of number of fruits per plant were scored for the plants supplied with compost plus mycorrhizal compared with the rest of treatments during the two succession seasons.
7- The highest value for average fruits length were obtained from the plants treated by compost plus phosphobacterin on the other hand, the lowest value was observed from control which had only chemical fertilizers.
8- The highest mean values of average fruit diameter were recorded for the treatment compost combined with micorrhizalon the same time, the lowest values was obtained by treatments (horse manure + phosphobacterin).
9- Regarding to the effect of bio-and organic fertilizers, the highest mean values of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium percentages in leave and fruits were scored for the plants supplied with compost and mycorrhizol or by using the cows manure plusephosphobacterin.
10- Referring to the effect of bio- and organic fertilizers of calcium content on leaves and fruits, the greatest values were achieved for the plants fertilized with cows manure plus phosphobacterin.
11- The highest mean values of sodium on cucumber leaves and fruits were documented for the plants received the chickens manure of cows manure with phosphobacterin.
12- Regarding the effect of bio- and organic fertilizers, the highest mean values of sulfur, manganese and iron in leaves and fruits were scored for the plants supplied with cows manure plusephosphobacterin.
CONCLUSION
For facing the high chemical fertilizers using problems and hence the decrease yield of cucumber, it can be alleviated by applyin organic fertilizers i.e. compost, cow manure, horse manure and chickens manure mixed with bio fertilizes i.e. phosphobacterin, Azotobacters and Mycorrhizal under united Arab Emartes conditions.
The results indicated that the best organic fertilizers were compost and cows manure combined with bio organic such as mycorrhizol, phosphocterin and Azotobacter.
