Abstract

This study carried out on turkey bird (Broad Breasted Bronze) at the research farm that belongs to Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Zagazig University. four experiments were designed to investigate the effect of egg storage, stocking density, light intensity and feed restriction on the behaviour and performance of turkey. during the period of January (2014) till the end march ( 2015).
I- First experiment
Effect of turkey egg storage on hatchability and chick quality.
In this experiment, 150 turkey eggs were divided into 5 groups according to periods of storage ”0, 4, 7, 10, 15 days” at 16-18 ° c and 55% of relative humidity ’R.H.’. Eggs were weighted individually at 1st day of storage and at the day of incubation to determine the weight loss during egg storage. Eggs were incubated in egg incubator for 28 days. , after that the poults were collected, counted and weighted from hatcher. The remain eggs were collected for estimating the hatchability % and Fertility % .
After hatching, chicks were weighted weekly with calculating feed intake for five weeks, as parameters of performance of poults.
The obtained results of this experiment could be summarized the following :
1- Egg weight was significantly affected by storage, weight loss was the highest in 10 days of storage (73.5±0.83).
2- Hatchability was affected by egg storage where it was the highest at fresh egg (93.3%) and the lowest in 15 days of storage (85%).
3- There was highly significance difference in the average body weight of poults under different periods of egg storage.
