Abstract
This research is concerned with the study of Al-Shatby`s perspective on Koufi grammar in his book (Al-Maqasid Al-Shafya). In this book, Al-Shatby collected a lot of the scattered doctrines and views. He elaborated in mentioning the evidences each doctrine relies on. His grammatical character appeared clearly in his comment on these views and doctrines, especially the Koufi grammar. This dissertation title is:

Hence, the importance of this research emerges. It also emerges in the following:
- It shows the method of Koufi grammarians in the grammar lesson through the Andalusian thought in this study which is based on inference and deduction, away from fanaticism and subjectivity.
- It introduces a great deal of the Koufi views in Al-Shatby’s explanation: Al-Maqasid Al-Shafya and critically evaluates and examines them, together with making sure of their proportion, then arranging, classifying, discussing, and assessing them in the light of Al-Shatby’s perspective as well as the perspectives of other grammarians.
- It spots light on one of the Andalusian genius grammarians who belong to the Koufi grammar. It also shows the roots of deduction for both opposition and supporting.
The research sought to achieve several objectives. Some of these are:
- Enriching grammatical images and clarifying them from their Koufi side whose most primary sources were lost, in addition to showing the features of the Koufi school in general side by side with the Basri school.
- Approaching one of our fine intellectual energies and reflecting upon its results, honoring one of the sincere men of Arabic language, namely Al-Shatby, and revealing his active grammatical character as representative of the Andalusian grammar. This is through showing his opinion about Koufi grammar as appeared in his explanation of (Al-Alfia Conclusion).
- Investigating the roots of Koufi grammar and its evidences on which Koufi grammarians depended when forming their views. This is done through the study and discussion of these views in the light of Al-Shatby’s opinion.
Last but not least, the researcher believes that this serious study, which represents
a little stone in the great field of grammar, hopefully contributes to adding a new value to the book Al-Maqasid Al-Shafya. That is because it is concerned with the views of its writer on Koufi grammar whose majority was lost. The researcher also hopes that this research have contributed to highlighting one of the important sides of grammatical thought in this valuable book written by one of the geniuses of Arabic grammar and a pioneer among Andalusian grammarians. The researcher hopes that this research would be of much benefit in the field of linguistic and grammatical studies which deal with this book.
