Abstract

Slope failure due to loading on soil has become a problem threatening watercourses. Many solutions are suggested to solve this problem. In the field, researches solved slope failure problems by gabion, mechanically stabilized earth, soil reinforcement techniques and .. etc.
The current research aims to improve soil mechanical prosperities by using natural fibers. In this research rice straw fibers were chosen to obtain double benefit; using rice straw fibers as soil reinforcement, and reducing pollution that caused by burning rice straw. Rice straw fibers can increase soil stress and decrease settlement. A sand box model was used to simulate the slope failure mechanism under reinforced and unreinforced soil using rice straw fibers.
