Introduction
Oil industry in Egypt has historical roots, since pharos as walls of temples have drawing declaring that pharos used raw oil as a fuel for lightening oil lantern.
Despite that the first geological survey process in Egypt hasn’t been carried out except in 19th century by French marine officer in 1835, and in 1886 the Egyptian government made the first well in eastern desert well’s production was about 25 barrel a day.
Oil industry began actually in Egypt in 1956 when law issued by establishing public authority of oil affairs, in Marsh 1973 Ministry of oil was established as independent ministry to undertake and organize oil industry in Egypt.
In 1981 oil became representing one of the main pillars of economy and an important source of Egyptian national income sources, oil sector becomes at the head of sectors supporting Egyptian economy, as Egypt depends on oil and natural gas in insuring about 92% of its needs of primary energy…oil exports represent an important source of natural income, oil sector achieved actual achievements in recent years reflected on averages of sector performance either in production, search, digging or exportation field.
Study Problem
1. Oil production companies in west east area of Suez Gulf by the increasingly new explorations and achieving sustainable development plans on burning gases associated with oil to accelerate putting these explorations on production map.
2. There are no production facilities to make use of these gases because their quantity is small according to every production site separately inside a company.
3. Non-availability of finance necessary to collect these gases and making use of them instead of burning them.
4. Weakness of oil production companies, possibility in the area place of study in dealing with exaggeration of gas emissions crisis will lead to environmental disaster harming current generations and future generations.
Study Hypotheses
Main Hypothesis
There are alternative methods of burning gases associated with oil production leads to achieving an economical, environmental and social revenue contributing in achieving sustainable development.
Sub Hypotheses
1. Used methods in dealing with gases associated with oil production in west north area of Suez Gulf are not harmful to surrounding environment.
2. Burning gases associated with oil production in the area place associated with oil production in the area place of study may cause an environmental crisis.
3. There are alternative methods to utilize gases associated with oil production instead of burning them.
4. Revenue resulting from utilizing gases place of study may not cover required costs.
Fourth: Study Objectives
1. Identifying gas emissions associated with oil production and facing environmental harm resulting from it, taking effect is done.
2. Studying possibility of making use of these gases instead of burning it as a source of energy or using it in fertilizers industry and chemical industries…etc
3. Studying economical feasibility as benefiting from these gases may add financial resources contributing in national economy growth.
4. Identifying the most important risks of gas emissions resulting from oil industry and efforts exerted to limit these risks.
5. Suggesting a methodology to limit pollution from the source controlling it.
Fifth: Study Significance
1. Significance of subject as a unique sector in economy of Egypt and mainly responsible for providing necessary energy sources.
2. Caring about reducing harmful effects resulting from oil industry in the surrounding environment.
3. Displaying and analyzing cost and revenue in field of facing environmental and economical deterioration resulting from mal-utilization of gases associated with oil production in west north area of Sues Gulf.
4. Trying to add this study newly to library environment and development economics through what it represents of analyzing study to economical side in the problem of burning gases associated with oil production in west north area of Suez Gulf.
Sixth: Study Limits
The researcher studies economical, environmental and economical dimension of oil industry in Arab Republic of Egypt, and highlighting gases associated with oil production and studying methods of dealing with it internationally and locally, by clarifying effect of that on environment surrounding west north area of Suez Gulf that overlooks western cost of Suez Gulf by a distance more than 100 kilometers starting from El-Zafarana the north to Hurghada in the west including Ras Gharb city that represents great population gathering, it also include a lot of oil production companies in Arab Republic of Egypt which is ]public company of oil, Gupco (shkeur), Soco, Osoco, El-Amal, Betrodara, west of bakr to produce about 40% of total oil production in Arab Republic of Egypt.
Seventh: Study Methodology
The researcher will depend on the following in preparing the study:
1. Library study through notifying Arabic and foreign references and periodicals that clarify environmental effect resulting from gases associated with treating and producing oil and methods of dealing with it.
2. Field study on field place of study.
3. Comprehensive study to solve crisis by application on Gharb fields as one of sources polluting the environment.
Eighth: Study Community
Research community is divided into 3 main sectors divided according to quantity of gas emissions resulting from burning oil gases associated with oil production processes from fields located in the west north of Red Sea cost.
Oil companies working in that area and working in field of oil production can be divided into 3 axes (A, B, C) according to quantity size of emissions resulting from gases associated with oil and not to quantity of gases resulting from subtracting processes.
These companies represent all world fields in oil, it also represents main centers of conforming pollution in the area place of study that help in achieving main objectives of the study.
