Abstract

Ater measuring the plasma VWF in our AML patients, there were no significant correlation between levels of vWF and patients age, leukocytic count, blast counts in B.M examination smear, platelets count, or coagulation profile. In addition, no significant differences between level of vWF as regard sex of our patients at diagnosis.
Plasma levels of vWF in AML patients at diagnosis were significantly higher compared to its level during remission and in control group.
The incidence of hemastatic complications in our patients 6 months before or after diagnosis was 8 patients (28%) who complicated by thrombosis while only 3 patients (12%) had bleeding events.
On analyzing the association between levels of vWF among our AML patients and the incidence of thrombotic complications within 6 months before or after diagnosis, we noticed that no statistical significant differences between level of VWF in patients with thrombosis and without thrombosis.
Also, there were no significant differences between levels of vWF in AML patients with or without cytogenetic abnormalities.
In conclusion, our study gives support to previous observations which demonstrated the increasing plasma levels of vWF in AML patients at the onset of diagnosis, and gradually decreases when these patients achieving remission state. We also focused on higher levels of vWF in AML patients compared to healthy normal individuals.
