Abstract

Effect of depth ( 5,10 and 15cm) of planting Lilium (cv.
Fangio) bulbs . The present work was carried out throughout two
successive seasons (2011and 2012 .) Data indicated that planting
with a layer of (5cm) soil on the top of the upright bulb gave the
least height during the two seasons Meanwhile, the best height
that resulted with the deeper planting (15cm ). The highest
value of No. of leave / plant was due to using the deeper culture
(15 cm) .The stem diameter was increased by increasing the
planting depth significantly during both seasons. No. of flowers
plant was increased by using (15 cm )soil on the top of upright
bulb ; while ,the two treatments (10 and 15 cm ) gave the highest
No. of flower especially in the second season . Significant
increases in fresh and dry weights of flower (g) resulted from both
(10 and 15 cm) when compared with (5 cm) treatment during both
seasons. Marked influences in flower stalk fresh weight were
obtained due to deeper culture
Effect of soaking period of Lilium (cv.Fangio) bulbs in amino
acid (Tyrosine) during the two seasons ( 2011and
2012).Prolonging soaking periods from 2 h. to 4 h . gave the
tallest plants in both season The treatment of soaking periods the
bulbs for 4 h .increased No. of leaves / plant significantly in both
season while, prolonging the soaking time 8 h the bulbs in
Tyrosine significant decrease No. of leaves / plant in the first

season, while caused negligible increase during the second season
. Also, prolonging soaking time in Tyrosine caused significant
decrease in stem diameter. Negligible increase on no. of flowers
affecting with the increasing soaking time of bulbs in solution of
Tyrosine. Fresh and dry weights of flowers were affected
significantly as recorded negligible decreased due to increasing of
soaking period. N, P and K % were affected with increasing the
soaking time in Tyrosine during the two seasons.
The fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lily was found to be
virulent pathogen on lily plants cv. Fangio (LA), since percentage
of infection reached 85% on the plants grown in infested soil.
Soil treating with each of all the treatments tested ,i. e. the
fungicide Topsin M and the hot water extracts of Blue-gum leaves
,Rue herb and Thyme herb minimized percentages of infection by
Fusarium disease significantly in lily plants (cv . Fangio) grown in
infested soil . Topsin M, however, was significantly superior to
the others in this respect and Thyme extract came the second in
position.
The treatments tested improved plant growth parameters
(plant height ,No.of leaves and No.of florets ) significantly more
than the control . The fungicide Topsin M, amongst the
treatments, was the best in this respect, since the increment in
these criteria of plant growth was significant if compared with the
others in most cases.
