Abstract

Because obesity is a major global health issue, and conservative or medical treatment is insufficient, antiobesity surgery is rapidly becoming one of the most common surgical procedures performed in gastrointestinal surgery. Surgery has proved its efficiency in treating many of the complications of obesity, such as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, sleep apnea syndrome, psychosocial effects, fertility problems, and even cancer-related deaths. The benefits of surgery must be measured against the risks of the procedures.
The field of bariatric surgery has become a very popular and competitive area of medicine, as the incidence of morbid obesity continues to rise and bariatric surgeons respond to the demand for effective treatments.
RYGB considered the gold standard operation around the world for its efficacy over sustained weight loss and remission of obesity related comorbidities and low incidence rate of post operative complications.
MGB is considered now among a lot of surgeons as an alternative operation for RYGB for its simpility, easy, short learning curve, sustained weight loss, and better quality of life.
Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a straight forward procedure compared with LRYGBP and MGB as it is less invasive, technically simpler, easier to perform, no mesenteric defects eliminating the risk of internal herniation, the whole digestive tract remains accessible for endoscopic evaluation, and no dumping syndrome occur.
