Abstract

The present study was conducted to study the effects of feeding different levels of Spirulina platensis on the following: rowth performance (body weight, body weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion ratio), Chemical composition of broiler’s breast meat muscles, Antioxidant status of broiler chicks (levels of catalase enzyme, reduced glutathion and malondialdehyde formation in liver), Immunological examination (phagocytic index, Haemagglutination tand Haemagglutination inhibition test), Blood lipid profil (total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL, HDL, VLDL), Economic efficiency of feeding spirulina platensis to broiler chicks.
A total of hundred eight one day old unsexed broiler chicks (Cobb) were used in this study, they randomly divided into equal six groups each containing three replicates each replicate contain ten chicks. They were fed on isocaloric and isonitrogenous diets. Feed and water were provided ad-libitum along the duration of the trial. The experiment extended for 6 weeks and the feeding period was divided into 3 stages:
4) Starter stage : from 0-21 day in which the bird fed diet containing CP 23% and ME 3200 kcal/kg diet
5) Grower stage : from 22-35 day in which the bird fed diet containing CP 21% and ME 3200 kcal/kg diet.
6) Finisher stage : from 36-42 day in which the bird fed diet containing CP 19% and ME 3200 kcal/ kg.
The experimental design was as the following.
