Abstract The present study aims at assessing the variation of the qualitative, quantitative traits and germination of the seeds of the wild flora in Damietta region. Also, it aims at preparing a consulting herbarium for these species, preserving of seed samples representing weed flora of the study area, initiating a bank for these seeds in Botany Department, Faculty of Science, Damietta. The total number of collected species 159 related to 124 genera and 40 families. These species were distributed in 10 major habitats. Sixteen seed shapes, nine colours, seven outlines, four textures and twenty ornamentations were recorded in the seeds. Seeds of most collected species had short length, width and thickness. They were in range of 0 – 1 mm for each parameter. Seeds of 159 species were germinated, 89 species germinated without special pre-treatments and70 species germinated with special pre-treatments such as soaking in KNO3, boil water, boil water &H2SO4 for 5 Min. |
