Abstract

Mental illnesses are pervasive disorders, potentially affecting many aspects of
person’s life including activities of dai ly living, social skills, social supports, work
skills, life satisfaction, use of leisure time, physical health care, personal safety,
family relationships and burden on family members. Clients with psychotic
disorders had significantly worse functioning and well-being than those without
psychotic disorders on all health related quality of life domains. This study aimed
to assess the quality of life among psychotic outpatients and identifY the factors
affecting their QOL. The study setting was in the psychiatric outpatient clinics of
EL-Mobarrah Health Insurance Hospital and El-Nasr General Governmental
Hospital in Port Said City, on a total sample of 96 psychotic patients. Results
revealed that, most of the psychotic patients have repo11ed poor qual ity of life. it
was observed that the income, crowding index, co-morbid disease, diagnosis,
patients progress, opinion about importance of compliance and presence of side
affects significantly effects the quality of life dimensions for psychotic patients.
