Abstract

DESIGNING AND TESTING DIGITAL CONTROL SYSTEM FOR ANY NUCLEAR RESEARCH REACTOR CAN BE COSTLY AND TIME CONSUMING. IN THIS THESIS, A RAPID, LOW-COST PROTOTYPING AND TESTING PROCEDURE FOR DIGITAL CONTROLLER DESIGN IS PROPOSED USING THE CONCEPT OF HARDWARE-IN-THE-LOOP (HIL). SOME OF THE CONTROL LOOP COMPONENTS ARE REAL HARDWARE COMPONENTS AND THE OTHERS ARE SIMULATED.FIRST, THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS MODELED AND TESTED BY REAL-TIME SIMULATION (RTS) USING CONVENTIONAL SIMULATION TECHNIQUES SUCH AS MATLAB / SIMULINK.SECOND THE HARDWARE-IN-THE-LOOP SIMULATION IS TASTED USING REAL-TIME WINDOWS TARGET IN MATLAB AND VISUAL C++. THE CONTROL PARTS ARE INCLUDED AS HARDWARE COMPONENTS WHICH ARE THE REACTOR CONTROL ROD AND ITS DRIVERS. THREE KINDS OF CONTROLLERS ARE STUDIED, PROPORTIONAL-DERIVATIVE (PD), PROPORTIONAL-INTEGRAL-DERIVATIVE (PID) AND FUZZY CONTROLLER. AN EXPERIMENTAL SETUP FOR HARDWARE USED IN HIL CONCEPT FOR THE CONTROL OF THE NUCLEAR RESEARCH REACTOR HAS BEEN REALIZED.
