Abstract

Schistosomiasis is one of the common parasitic diseases in Egypt, the intestinal form of schistosomiasis is accompanied by serious complications including cirrhosis of the liver, hematemesis, ascites and liver failure, the lungs are affected and there is arteritis of the pulmonary vessels ending with heart failure.
It was found that in hepatosplenic phase, there is usually anemia which could be explained as a result of hyper—splenism which is a condition associated with an increase in is power of the spleen including red cells.
