Abstract

This study was conducted in Behera Province, Egypt, :-
on 328 local breed cattle of different ages, distributed in
four different regions (Bay El-Baroud 56 animals; Shobra
Kheet 116 animals; Hoosh Essa 56 animals and
Damanhour 100 animals)
The examined animals had a history of Babesia
infection and not treated. In this study the 328 local breed
cattle were tested by routine parasitological examination
of Giemsa stained blood film which revealed an
incidence of 34.8% of the examined animals were
infected by B.bigernina.
Concerning the locality, the higher percentage of
Babesia infection was recorded at Hoash Essa (67.8%),
followed by Damanhour locality (37%) , while Shobra
Kheet and Etay El-Baroud localities recorded an
incidence of 25% and 17% respectively.
Two serological techniques were applied 1- The
Capillary tube agglutination test (CAT) in which 130 local
breed cattle were examined indicating a positive cases
in a percentage of 61.5%
