Abstract

One hundred samples of breast and thigh muscles of broiler chicken (50 from each) were collected from different sanitation levels retail markets at Behera governorate and transferred to the laboratory under aseptic condition with a minimum of delay to be examined bacteriologically to determine Escherichia coli; faecel and Enteropathogemc strains; in broiler chicken carcasses,
The bacterioligcal examination revealed that the incidence of the isolated E-coli from the breast and thigh muscles of broiler chicken samples were 36 and 40 repectively. Also the entenc bacteria could be isolated and identified in different percentages from breast and thigh muscles as Citrobacter freundii, (4,10); Citrobacter diversus, (4,4); Enterobacter aerogenes, (4,6); Enterobacter cloacae, (6,6); Enterobacter hafniae (4,4); Klebsiella aerogenes,(2,4); Kiebsiella pneumoniae, (16,8); proteus morganii, (10,6); proteus rettgeri, (4,4) and Shigella, (10,8) respectively.
During further identification, 38 E-coli strains could be serotyped
and belonged to different pathogenic E-coli serovars 026 K 60, 055 K59,
0111 K58, 0114 K-, 0125 K70, 0126K71, 0127 K63, 0128K67,
0142 K86, 0158 K-, in 18 samples of breast muscles while in 20 samples
of thigh muscles belonged to serovars 026 K60 , 055 K 59, 011 1K58,
0111 K59, 0114 K-, 0119K69-, 0125 K50, 0128 K67, 0142K86,
0158 K-, and 0172k 63. Morover, the incidence of congo red positive Ecoli isolates was 100% ,this result indicates that congo red positive E-coli
isolates are widely distributed and may constitute major disease problems.
The public health significance of the isolated E-coli and the suggested sanitary rules handling, transporting, storage and marketing of broiler chicken carcasses were discussed.
