Abstract

1.A total of 300 rats and mice were collected from different localities in Kaliobia govemorate; cattle farms (8.60/0) of rats and mice, dairy plants (8.3%), sheep farms (6%), slaughter houses (100/0), butcher shops (8%), farmer houses (16%), store houses (9%), bed rooms (15%), kitchens (9.30/0) and govenunental hospitals (9.6%). Collected rats and mice were identified into Rattus rattus, Rattus norvegicus and Mus musculus. 2. Identification of arthropods infesting trapped rats and mice revealed Xenopsylla cheopis, Ctenocephalides felis and suckling lice Polyplax spinulosa. Infestation of rodents with fleas was 84.40/0, 94.40/0 and 74.6% in Rattus rattus, Rattus ”norvegicus and Mus musculus, respectively. Infestation with lice was 800/0, 90% and 69.3% in different three species arranged above. 3. Fleas collected from Rattus rattus, Rattus norvegicus and Mus musculus were positive against Rickettsia mooseri antisera in percentage of9, 12 and 3% of Xenopsylla cheopis respectively and 3, ., 5 & 0.0% of Ctenocephalides felis respectively by indirect immlU1ofluorescencestaining technique and negative against Coxiella bumetii antisera. While Polyplax spinulosa collected from trapped rats and mice were negative against both antisera.
