Abstract 1. The thesis consists of three chapters, the first chapter represents the introduction in which the quantitative methods used to determine ion-solvent specific interactions have been considered. These methods depend on the determination of the Born free energy of transfer and its modifications, enthalpies of transfer and other thermodynamic functions, conductance and transference measurements, different spectroscopic investigations, the energies of absorption maximum of some ions, molar volume, the viscosity, molar refraction of the electrolytes, Sound velocity and dielectric measurements. Indication was also given about the dependence of the solvation of ions on their charge densities, and the method of the analysis of the kinetic parameters. On the other hand, a survey was done on octahedral complexes concerning, factors affecting the stability of the complex, types of substitution reactions, and corre— lation of the rate constant with solvent properties in terms of Grunwald-Wienstien 1-function and dielectric constsnt. Some examples representing the aquation of Co (ILL) cortiplexes were also given. 2. The second chapter represents the experimental part which has concerned with methods of the purification of solvents. |
