Abstract A growing human population is making demands on the coastal zone for living space, leisure and recreation, and a host of other purposes. At the same time, the coastal waters are important sources of food and other resources. The Environmental Action Plan of Egypt, calls for conservation and safe utilization of the natural resources of the country. Remote areas away from the Nile valley and the delta, where the environment is particularly fragile, require special considerations and measures for optimum development. One of these areas is the North-Western coastal zone along the Mediterranean Sea. The implications of population projections tend to be very depending on one’s view and geographical location. Each society tries to solve its own problems within its own socioeconomic framework and with the resource available to it. The selection of land suitable for certain use should depend on the assessment of its fragility and its value for other uses. Study area lies at a distance of about 80 krn to the east of Matrouh. It is an important natural resources if properly planned. Much of this area are still virgin. The area is considered as one of the most important touristic sites in north-western coast. For these reasons a long term plan for its development must be put forward. The aim of this work is to develop the land use plan for future development of a selected study area of the coastal zone. |
