Abstract The present study deals with the coastal processes. A 2-D mathematical model has been developed to study the coastal processes over coastal areas including the surf zone and the offshore one. This model is capable to calculate the wave characteristics, current distribution, sediment moving and the corresponding bed level changes over a study area. The theoretical analysis for simulating the coastal processes are presented using the wave, the momentum and continuity equations. A finite difference technique and Visual Basic language: were used in developing the model to simulate the coastal processes over coastal areas. The model was applied along the Egyptian coast. The coast was divided into four zones namely; Northwest coast, Delta coast, Northeast coast and Red Sea coast. A study area in each zone was selected for simulating the coastal processes to illustrate the involved problems and to suggest the suitable solutions by means of the model. |
