Abstract SUMMARY The microoroan isms of vaginal secretions represents a mixture from various anatomical, sites such as the vaginal and cervical rriuco^a, the endocervical can a 1 and glands, while each of these sites may have a distinct microorganism. The microbial flora of the vagina presents an extensive and d iversified spectrum of pathogenic and non-pathogenic organisms like any other human tissue system j which may be in f 1 uenced by pregnancy and. by the presence of leucorrhoea which may alter the balance be¬tween potential pathogen ic organisms and the normal vaginal flora. The aim of the work was to detect the incidence of vagina 1 pathogen s among pregnant and non-pregnant women 4 with and without leucorrhoea. For this purpose, 8O women of the fertile age group were selected from El-Shatby Maternity Hospital, Alexandria University. 60 of them were pregnant (3d with leucorrhoea and 3O asymptomatic) and 2O non-pregnant t3D with leucor¬rhoea and 10 asymptomatic)* They were examined gynaeco— logi cally detai led! history obtained, vaginal swabs were taken for culture on different media, wet smears were examined by d irect micro 5copy(for Trichomonads and clue cells) and Gram stained films made to detect clue cells |
