Abstract Day by day me aquatic lite in water bod;, in Abu - Qir bay is almost started .’ die. Urging need to prevent pollution or at least to decrease it step by step, so, simplified lais and methods must be begins at once, other wise a global disaster will occur. As the major part of egyptian industry (30-40%) is located in Alexandria and among them the general company for paper industry RAKTA which is a great company in paper industry for more than 50 years, so, a study on one type of wastes which ^charged to Abu - Qir bay from RAKTA pulp mills was carried out, namely the waste niter coming from rice straw wet cleaning department. Plain sedimentation as first stage bench scale treatment was studied. Also chemical sedimentation by using coagulant aid and Jar test apparatus was studied. These all were carried out to find the max. % reduction or the removal efficiency of’ T.S, S.S & COD. Samples from pulp mill Nlo’2 sewer system at point 132 which discharge its nluents directly to sea water in Abu - Qir bay were tested and studied for sedimentation. Results show that max. % reduction or high, removal efficiency of T.S, S.S .COD loads as follows: For plain sedimentation the maximum % reduction of T.S, S.S&COD were ”1.2%, 97 .(>%&. 42% respectively with a dark color solution over the sediment this mean nit by applying plain sedimentation for treating this type of effluent gave no great effect on Of) % reduction even if filtration is applied after sedimentation but on the other hand there .ill be a good % reduction m S.S and T.S. for using calcium hydroxide as chemical coagulant, the’ maximum .reduction of T.S, S.S &COD were 47.7%, s>S.X%& 95.7%respectivly. For using alum as chemical coagulant. the maximum % reduction of T.S, -S,S& COD were S4.K%. 97.5% &70.7% respectively, for using a mixture of alum and calcium hydroxide as coagulant in different concentrations the maximum % reduction of T.S, S.S & COD were 73%, 99% &97% respectively. Certain concentration for coagulant No.3 and coagulant No.l in different cocentrations were chosen to be applied practically because the great reduction in pollution Carted at this values and there was no great change in the pollution reduction . |
