Abstract

Garment production is still an intensively labor determined activity and the economics of production is critically affected by labor costs. There is only one long term solution to convert the process of garment production to the same state of the machine dependence as presently exists in textile manufacturing process. This implies automatic control of process and productions. Fortunately computer power and flexible automatic handling techniques have developed over the past decade to such an extent that automated production lines have become the norm in many areas of manufacturing industry.
‎So, all the apparel and clothing manufacturers try to find the easiest, suitable and most automated computerized methods which are convenient with the used material, as the garment industry so far is one of the least automated industries in the world, depending largely on skilled labor.
‎The spreading operation is an important process which joins the previous and the following processes of the garment manufacture. Therefore, it is necessary to control the fabric during this process with the aim to maintain the quality of the process output and to increase the performance of the next processes.
‎Recently the spreading process is under research and investigation. It is essential to study the requirements of the spreading operation and the possible defects. Once the defects are under control, that will facilitate the application of new automation. So, it will be advisable to study the defects occurred during spreading operation and trying to reduce them through the investigation of the spreading machine performance.
