Association rules discovery is a well known data mining technique that has been used in market basket analysis and recently in the analysis of genomic data. Association rules algorithms often produce large number of rules, which are difficult for human analyst to manually analyze and use. Thus, a post processing phase is required to retrieve the rules the user needs in his application.
Subset and superset queries are common queries for association rules analysis. However, both queries are not supported in standard sql or in current database management systems (dbms). Moreover, existing set indexing techniques either need additional verification step for query results, or do not support both queries efficiently.
