Abstract This study was carried-out in an attempt to compare the effect of using tooth-brush and Miswak on gingival condition and oral hygiene status Fifteen girls, ages ranging between twenty and twenty- five years old and appearing free from any systemic disease, have been divided randomly to two groups : Miswak group and tooth-brush group Clinical dental examination and sampling of saliva were taken from them at the beginning and at the end of study period of 3 months . Clinical dental evaluation was applied by using : 1. Plaque index : Silness and Löe 2. Gingival index Löe and Silness 3. Retention index : Bjorby and LOe Biochemical evaluation included estimation of salivary PH, fluoride and vitamin C concentrations Data obtained from the present investigations revealed 1. A significant decrease in plaque index was observed in both groups 2. Severity of gingival inflammation-was decreased at both groups with a significant improvement in Miswak group only. |
