Abstract Milk is considered to be one of the most important food for human. It serves as an excellent medium for growth of many bacteria. Some may cause spoilage whereas others such as Listeria monocytogenes can produce disease in animal and human. L. monocytogenes was first isolated from animal in 1911, and the first confirmed report of lIsteric infection in human appeared in 1929. Also the first bacteriological confirmed case of listeric meningitis was reported in 1935. Since 1981 about four confirmed dairy-related listeriosis outbreaks, resulted from consumption of contaminated milk and some dairy products were reported. L. monocytogenes JS a senous foodborne pathogen, which can cause abortion in pregnant women and meningitis in immuno-compromised people. |
