Abstract

Egypt enforces restricted laws in order to save ironment from the effects of the industrial waste . of the main source of pollution. The beverage industry of concern has been receni nstructed and industrial waste control and treatme e not applied in the factory, so the objectives of th udyare to optimize and treat its final waste throu industrial processes, segregation of t. it’s wastes and treatment of the wastes to secUJ ’,nimal pollutant load discharged. The study program included survey of the study site uacterization of Processes effluents to pinpoint th ”. urces \ of the pollutants, study of the whole yea: ustrial waste characterization evaluation of thE fferent methodp of treatment, and selection of thE Umum treatment technology, The result of the survey showed that water treatment it is the main source of solids, bottle washing machine ” IICj;I ” .vduces the most polluted waste in quality and quanti tJ factory, organic carbohydrate ’” the beverages some the preparation unit during from syrup shing the syrup tanks and the production lines from the during filling and the fillers jets over The results of the beverage wastes analysis showed , unit merely normal ( 1 ) maintenance is waste Car because of the efficiency of the oil and greas trap. (2 ) Effluent waste generated from the water treatment uni t showed a very high amount of total solids which come. from the coagulation process and ion ” I exchangers. (3 ) Effluent waste from the syrup Preparation unit is characteri~ed by a slightly high BaD and COD due to washing of the syrup preparation tanks and the uni t’ s floor. ,. (4 ) Bottle washing unit waste is characterized by a very high pH, COD, and a high amount of BOD, solids and phosphates. (5 ) Production lines waste is mainly high in BOD, COD and some settleable solids. . (6 ) The final waste after the different unit’s waste is characterized by high ph, BOD and COD and slightly high in solids. Trials and error proc~dure was applied to determine the best technology of treatment. I~was found that, physical and chemical treatment efficient in the the of beverage recovery waste. .. Equalization then Neutralization of the waste with nitric acid to pJI 7 as a neutralizing agent, and as a ~source of ni trogen in the waste followed by sedimentation for two hours to settle most of the suspended solids ” . ’. ’ 115. fore feeding to the aeration tank of the activated A laboratory scale activated sludge treatment was ,plied with different hydraulic detention times. It was 4 hours hydraulic detention time followed a secondary sedimentation for one and half hours, the iD, V.S. turbidity’s removal percedt were 91, 76 and 93 ’espectively and these get the treated effluent to comply Egyptian standard of the discharged wastes law .^leng
