Abstract

The young child has certain biological characteristics that make him particularly susceptible to various health problems. He is rapidly growing and has comparatively nutri­tional needs. especially proteins and essential amino acids more than older children and adults. The main health problems of many developing countries, par’ticular’ly in rural com­munities. are usually concentrated among infants and young childr’en as they live in unhealthy environments and ar’e ex­posed to different illnesses. Ma Inutrition. developmental delay, mor’ta 1 it i es and mor­ hidit ies are the main health problems prevailing among 1n­ feints and young children in rlJJ’al communities in Egypt. The Pl’esent wor’\( was planned to study infants’health in Abbis (2) and Abbis (8) vi llages through checking t hei r’ mor’tJ id i ties. mortalities. developmental achievements. nutritional status. in addition to their vacc i nation coverage during the first year of 1ife. Also. the study helped to investigate some of the ecological factors related to chi ld’ s health. The nutritional status of each infant \.Ja s indicated bY weight for age percentage of the median ffiomez class/flea-­ tion/, length for age and weight for length per’centage of the median (Vater/ofv’ c/assiricationJ.
