Abstract

The study was carried out for bacteriological and pathological examination of pneumonic lungs of lambs. The examined lungs were collected from a total number of 70 lambs during the period from January, 2004 to February, 2005.
The gross lesions of the affected lungs were recorded followed by collection of tissue specimens.
 Bacteriological findings:
The bacteriological examination revealed that the bacteria isolated as single pathogen were Staphylococcus aureus at rate of 14.2%, followed by Streptococcus pneumoniae at rate of 11.4% and Staphylococcus haemolyticus at rate of 7.1%. Each of Streptococcus pyogenes and Escherichia coli isolated at rate of 2.8%. Also, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus intermedius, Citrobacter diversus and Edwardsiella ictaluri were isolated.
Bacteria isolated as mixed pathogens were Escherichia coli at rate of 15.7%, Staphylococcus aureus at rate of 12.8%, Streptococcus pneumoniae at rate of 11.4%. Each of Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus intermedius were isolated at rate of 4.2%. After that came Edwardsiella ictaluri at percentage of 4.28%. Each of Staphylococcus haemolyticus and Enterococcus faecalis were isolated at rate of 2.85%. Also, Staphylococcus lentus, Providence alcalifaciens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Klebsiella pneumoniae were isolated as mixed pathogens.
