The production of slub yam one of the popular types of fancy yam, has been increased due to the market demands imparting special aesthetic appeal to fabrics. Slub yam may have slubs with variables proprties in slub diameter, length, andslub space.
‎In this work, slub yam was produced using a developed designed attatchments depending on; The air pressurized principle and the excess feeding timing principle.
‎In the first apparatus of the air pressurized principle, several experiments were carried out to investigate the optimum processing parameter for slub yarn production, and support the study of the theoretical formation of slub yam production. This includes air pulse time, air pressure value, yam count, yarn twist factor, and opening roller speed. It also investigates the effect of fibre length on its extent by using this method.
‎It was found that, the properties of slub are influenced by air pressure and duration of air pulse and the processing parameters. Siub diameter increases with the increase of the air pressure, and decreases with increase of English yam count, yam twist factor, and opening roller speed. Slub length increases with the increase of the English yarn count, and decreases with the increase of the air pressure, yarn twist factor, and opening roller speed. Secondary slub was decreased by the increasing of the air pressure, and the secondary slub length is significantly reduced by increasing air pressure value, and was increased with increase the air pulse time. In general, slub has no effect on slub yarn tenacity and elongation. Processing parameters such as air pulse time, air pressure ... , and opening roller speed did not significantly affect the tensile properties.
‎In the second apparatus of excess feeding timing principle, an experiment wase carried out to investigate the effect of the time of the excess feeding on the slub properties.
‎It was found that, slub diameter as well as slub length increased with the increase of the additional feeding time. The properties of the slub yam produced in this method broke the limitations encountered in the previous apparatus in the slub diameter and slub length.
‎Deducing the equations that express the slub yam formation was carried out. This may well help optimizing the perfect design of slub yam and enable better processing yarn during production.
